Creamy Screwdriver

The Screwdriver is as common as dirt. Not that it's bad. It serves a function of being easy to make and refreshing. But the more uncommon Creamy Screwdriver has egg yolk and is blended. It doesn't get more unusual than that.

And it's good. Blending egg yolk adds a thickness that is hard to identify. It is creamy, helped along by a creamy vodka like Divine Clarity. It is the perfect early afternoon smoothie that doubles as lunch and a drink.
  • 2 oz. vodka (Divine Clarity used)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 6 oz. orange juice
Combine all ingredients in a blender with ice and blend until smooth. Pour into a chilled highball glass.

(Dark) Rum Screwdriver

You could do this drink in the way that the vodka cocktail was intended, an easy way to make orange juice alcoholic. But a dark rum Screwdriver means that you have the option to taste something great. Pusser's Navy Rum is probably the best choice because its funky flavor will stand out. I used a mix of Dark rum and 151-proof rum just so that I wouldn't be wasting as much of my good dark rum in an orange juice drink.
  • 2 oz. dark rum (Pusser's and Cruzan 151 used)
  • Orange Juice
Build drink in a Collins glass with rum and ice. Top with orange juice and stir.

Screwdriver

Sometimes simple is exactly what is called for. You want orange juice that gets you drunk, right? That's the screwdriver. Easy to make. Easy to drink. Go for it with breakfast or on hot days. Or, you know, when you want orange juice that gets you drunk.

  • 2 oz. vodka (Aylesbury Duck used)
  • orange juice
Build drink in a Collins glass full of ice with vodka and top with orange juice.

Slow Comfortable Screw

The Slow Comfortable Screw is from the family of increasingly humorously named cocktails based on the Screwdriver. The Screwdriver (vodka and orange juice) becomes a Slow Screw when sloe gin is added, and sexual innuendo is implied. Southern Comfort makes the drink even more "comfortable."

Take this recipe and add Galliano (the key ingredient in a Harvey Wallbanger) and you get the Slow Comfortable Screw Against A Wall (Not yet on my blog.) But here is the strong but approachable (and comfortable) beach classic.
  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz. sloe gin
  • 1/2 oz. Southern Comfort
  •  orange juice
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a highball glass full of ice.

Slow Screw

There are so many sloe gin drinks out there, and many are just repetitions of oldies with the substitution of sloe gin. The Slow Screw, of course, is just a screwdriver with sloe gin. Had I any Galliano left I would have also made a Slow Screw Against A Wall, a mashup of a Harvey Wallbanger and a Slow Screw. Look for this on in the future.
  • 2 oz. sloe gin
  • orange juice
Build the drink in a highball glass with ice. Add sloe gin and top with orange juice. Stir gently.
